South Korea’s "troop soup" developed inadvertently.
Although the dish "Military Soup" is simple, its name has an extraordinary origin.
After the end of World War II, South Korea was liberated from Japanese colonial rule, but it did not achieve true independence.
A large number of US troops then moved to the south of the Korean peninsula, while Soviet troops occupied the north of the peninsula. Soon after the Korean War broke out, the people of South Korea were extremely scarce of living supplies, and even ate leaves to satisfy their hunger. However, the supply of materials for the US military in South Korea is very sufficient. Some American soldiers threw away hams and sausages that had not been eaten after the expiration date. But to the hungry Koreans, these "garbage" are like pies falling from the sky. The locals pick it up and wash it clean, add homemade kimchi, noodles, tofu, etc. to cook it, and it becomes a delicious meal.
The people who originally invented this "hodgepodge" were villagers near the US military base in South Korea. At that time, people gave it a foreign name called "Johnson Soup." Later, the dish slowly spread throughout South Korea, and the name gradually became localized and became "troop soup." This "force" refers to the US troops stationed in South Korea.
Although some people don't want to mention that sad past, the "troop soup" has become a popular dish in South Korea and is loved by more and more people. "
