Candied haws is a traditional Chinese delicacy. It is made by skewering wild fruits with bamboo skewers and dipped in maltose syrup. The syrup quickly hardens when exposed to wind. A common snack in the north in winter is usually made of hawthorn. The syrup is frozen hard, and it tastes sour, sweet and very ice.
