I believe everyone has eaten nougat. The strong peanut and milk aroma, the mouth is sweet and chewy. However, when it comes to its origin, I am afraid that not many people know it. In fact, the legend about nougat started with a scholar in the Ming Dynasty.

In the ten years of Emperor Xuande in the Ming Dynasty, Shang Ren once participated in the Zhejiang Provincial Examination and entered Taixue to study with great concentration. One night, he dreamed that he was kneeling in front of Emperor Wenchang. Emperor Wenchang, who was smiling and silent at him, suddenly stretched out his hand and waved, the peanuts in front of the altar automatically withdrew their shells and flew into a dish of candies next to him. When the peanuts were all gone, they turned into a herd of cows and rushed towards him. After Shang Ren awoke, he hurried to find someone to explain his dream. The dream interpreter said that there are both inkstones and peanuts on the altar. I am afraid that there is a metaphor of brilliant pens and flowers; "ox" refers to ox hair and symbolizes wisdom. Shang Ren was very happy when he heard that, he went to Beijing to rush to the exam as soon as he took the burden, and as expected, he passed the test one after another as the dream interpreter said.

In order to thank Emperor Wenchang for blessing his high school, after taking the fame, Shang Ren asked his family to imitate the scene in his dreams, mix them with rice, maltose, add peanuts and roll them into cow-shaped candies in a cow-shaped mold as offerings to worship Emperor Wenchang , And distributed to the neighborhood after the sacrifice. Because of its mellow taste and its popularity, nougat has spread since then.
