There is a legend circulating in Chengdu, Sichuan: During the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, a shopkeeper surnamed Wen in Wanbao Sauce Garden in Chengdu had a pocky-faced daughter named Wen Qiaoqiao. She was married to the shopkeeper Chen of an oil mill in Ma Jia. Ten years later, her husband died accidentally while transporting oil. After the death of her husband, Qiaoqiao's life with her sister-in-law became a problem. Oil transport workers and neighbors brought rice and vegetables to help them every day. Next to Qiaoqiao are tofu shop and mutton shop. She stewed minced mutton with tofu into mutton tofu, which tasted spicy, and the neighbors in the neighborhood thought it was delicious. Therefore, the two sisters-in-law changed the house into a restaurant, with a shop in the front and a house in the back, serving customers with lamb and tofu as their signature dishes. The snack shop is not expensive, the taste is good, and the business is very prosperous. Qiaoqiao did not remarry after living as a widow, and has been living on lamb tofu. After her death, people called mutton tofu "mapo tofu" to commemorate her, and it is still known today. Now, "Mapo Tofu" has become a home-cooked dish that can be seen everywhere, and it is loved by foreign friends.
