Hello everyone, I'm the foreigner John. Welcome to John's little kitchen!

Many netizens sent messages saying that they liked the eight-treasure rice in the previous issue. Today I will introduce another dish suitable for New Year’s Eve dinner: barbecued pork.

I compared my homemade char siu sauce with the char siu sauce I bought in the supermarket, and found that the char siu made with my own char siu sauce was better.

I hope everyone likes my recipe, roast a red char siew, and have a prosperous New Year!

Ingredients

Barbecued Pork | John's Kitchen

1. First, let's prepare the barbecued pork sauce. We need to use: dark soy sauce, light soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, oyster sauce, honey, white sugar, five-spice powder.

2. Then, use a garlic press to press a few pieces of garlic into garlic paste.

3. Finally, we must add the most important material: southern milk. The addition of southern milk can make the barbecued pork taste sweeter, and it is also the key to the reddish color of the barbecued pork.

4. Stir all the ingredients evenly.

5. Then, pour the barbecued pork sauce into the fresh-keeping bag of the marinated pork, and then seal the bag to make a horse-killing chicken for the pork. For pork, choose plum meat with evenly distributed fat and lean.

6. For comparison, I also marinated some pork with commercially available barbecued pork sauce. Put the pork in the refrigerator and marinate for a day or two until it is full of flavor.

7. After the pork has been marinated, place them in a roasting pan with a grill. I wrapped the baking pan with tin foil in advance to prevent the bottom of the baking pan from scorching and make it easier to clean. Place the baking tray in the middle of an oven preheated to 220 degrees Celsius and bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

8. Next, let’s prepare the honey water for brushing the surface of the barbecue. Just mix the same amount of honey and water evenly.

9. Take out the roasted meat in the oven every 10 minutes and brush it with honey water. This can lock the gravy in the roast and also help the roast evenly color.

10. After the barbecued pork is roasted, put it on the grill and rest for a while, and then cut it when it is not hot.

11. Everyone must be careful: Don’t steal too much, or the meat will disappear after the cut! The freshly baked barbecued pork is tender and juicy, sweet and glutinous, with a hint of wine and garlic, it is perfect!

Tips:

1. When marinating pork, you can also choose other containers to marinate the pork. I personally recommend using a large fresh-keeping bag to marinate the meat because it is easy to handle and the sauce can be more evenly wrapped in the ingredients on.

2. The prepared char siu can be used as an appetizer, a good sign of prosperity for the New Year's table. The char siu that can't be eaten is used for fried rice, and it tastes great!
