The bashful noodle is said to be named after the King of Wen in the Western Zhou Dynasty.
Legend has it that Zhou Wenwang was young because his parents died prematurely, and he has been raised by his elder brother and sister-in-law. Once, Zhou Wenwang led his army in the middle of the expedition and encountered a pouring rain. The sister-in-law went down to the cupboard and made a bowl of hot noodles for King Wen. King Wen was sweating profusely and was refreshed. Later, to commemorate his sister-in-law, he named it "Sister-in-law noodles."
The bashful noodle is also known as "sister-in-law noodle" or "whistle noodle", and "whistle noodle" may be due to homophonic transformation. "
